Hip pain in athletes is a common cause of discomfort and can be a frustrating problem to treat. In the past, just about any hip pain symptom was attributed to a "muscle strain" type of injury. While this is a common cause of hip pain in athletes, we are learning more and more about other causes of hip pain that can sideline a player from the action.
It also can arise as the result of repetitive motion from certain movements such as golf or soccer. Or, pain can result from a congenital condition that causes wear and tear on the joint. Sometimes the pain is noticed after sitting through a movie or getting in and out of a car.

A lot goes on in the pelvic area; it's home to your bowel, bladder, ovaries, uterus womb and more. That's why when you have pelvic pain, it's important to know the differences between the common causes, to learn what's normal and what's not, and when you should seek help.
Ischial tuberosity fracture and its associated complications are an under recognized diagnosis in the adolescent athlete. Apophyseal injuries of the pelvis in the skeletally immature athlete can occur in multiple locations but are most common at the ischial tuberosity, affecting males more commonly than females. The most common cause of ischial tuberosity avulsion fracture is a quick eccentric load to the proximal hamstrings, occurring with kicking as in soccer, football, or dance. Signs and symptoms are similar to a proximal hamstring injury but avulsion injuries often go undiagnosed, as radiographs are not frequently obtained.
It is a condition that occurs when tissue similar to the inside lining of the uterus is found outside of its normal location. Endometrial implants can be found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and ligaments that support the uterus and tissue covering the bladder and rectum. The most common locations of endometrial implants in teens are in the cul—de—sac area behind the uterusand near the bladder.
Taming the SRU. Plain radiographs are a widely available modality that confer benefits of cost effectiveness and promptness, proving them very useful as an initial diagnostic choice when approaching several musculoskeletal concerns, particularly pelvic and hip pathologies. Pelvic and hip X-rays are almost always obtained, and with good reason, in patients presenting after significant blunt trauma to rule out bony abnormalities and underlying structural injuries in patients that are unstable or altered, have an abnormal pelvic exam, or have significant distracting injuries.
