Tens of thousands have gathered for the deranged nine-day festival of excess, which is unique among others in frowning at any hint of commercialism. Incredible photos show attendees donning outrageous Mad Max-style outfits, or even forgoing clothes at all, under the relentless sun. And the ritualistic burning of a giant human-shaped effigy is seen sending smoke and flames billowing into the empty skyline.
Normally my fridge contains little more than vodka and eyeliner pencils to keep them from melting. But I had to go out and buy trail mix and beef jerky and all kinds of other nonperishable foods to nosh up on the Playa. People have been inviting me to Burning Man for at least 10 years, but I never went because it seemed too dirty — plus in those days I rolled around in a pink Lincoln TownCar, which was hardly playa-worthy.
It took me more than 10 years to get there. Hands down one of the best weeks of my life. For a moment in space and time, Humankind shines and glows with all of its wondrous beauty.
This is what it looks like when 60, misfits, freaks, adventurers, friends, overprofessionals, extreme amateurs, artists, musicians, scoundrels, heroes, and everything in between come together to build an epically alive desertart city that will disappear in just one week. The dust storm white-outs, the depth of earnest human connection, the dizzying energy and utter freedom… I am still reeling. There are varying levels of naked people up in here. If that is not something that you want to see, do not pass go, and do not collect two-hundred dollars.
The Guardian brings us an amazing shot, taken at Burning Man From The Guardian, May 9 :. Since then, the numbers have increased.
But way better…. Dance, arts, love, experiment and exploration begin to take form. We serve up a delicious and refreshingly-iced Playa Cosmo — our signature cocktail on the playa — every day in our comfy lounge.
Every year, thousands gather in a remote section of the Nevada desert to, essentially, have the best time ever. The festival - which has been running since - starts on the last Monday of August and ends on the first Monday of September. Event organisers encourage festival-goers to abandon their phones, their money, and probably their clothes, and live and care for each other as one community for an entire week.
